Still humming? Turn the power OFF at the switch and breaker. Then use the hex/Allen wrench in the slot on the underside to work the flywheel back and forth and free the jam.

Repair or replace: the honest answer

We’ll tell you straight, because it saves you money and earns the next call: a jam, a tripped reset, a bad switch, or a leaking flange is usually worth repairing. But if the unit is leaking from the bottom housing, the motor is burnt, or it’s simply old, replacement is the better value — a new disposal is an inexpensive appliance, and rebuilding a worn one costs more than it’s worth.

One LA-specific note: a lot of the “my disposal is broken” calls we run turn out to be a clogged kitchen drain line, not the disposal at all — grease and hard-water scale build up in older cast-iron kitchen lines across the region until the disposal has nowhere to push. We check the line, not just the unit, so you don’t pay to replace a disposal that was working fine.

They offered to send someone same-day, but I opted for next morning instead. I love that they use a one hour appointment window, instead of 3-5 hours like other companies. Technician, Victor, arrived right on time, explained the issue to me and pointed out a couple other problems, fixed everything and tested everything thoroughly before leaving. Advantage Plumbing repiped my entire crawl space, including the main line under my house and the lateral line in my front yard, this past week. I interviewed six companies before choosing them, and from the first visit through project completion, the experience was exceptional.

They gave me a fair, respectable quote, and the work was fully permitted (Advantage pulled the permit at a modest cost). Even the city inspector said, "Nice work!" The crew was punctual, courteous, hardworking, and clearly knowledgeable — top-notch in every way.

For the front yard line, they used pipe-bursting technology, so my yard didn't need to be dug up.  The new line will last 100 years. Every part of the job — proper strapping, quality materials, multiple cleanouts — was done to the highest standard. This was truly exceptional work, and I'm grateful for their dedication. Thank you to Steve, Johny, and the entire crew for a job so well done!

Separately, before the repiping project, I had Advantage come out to snake a clogged tub drain. They arrived the same day and did a great job. Alfonso and Jose were punctual, kind, friendly, and attentive — another job well done!

I had a water dripping on the street issue that ai could not figure out . When soap bubbles appeared, we realize the problem was the sewer .  Steve rearranged his team schedule to get the problem fixed and fast.

The pipe, on a hillside was scoped with a camera revealing  the severity of the 90 year old cast iron pipes.  A replacement was needed.  One can only shudder to think the cost of that.

Using new technology called pipe lining, not only was the pipe repaired from the inside out , they even managed to clean the pipe below the street, saving us thousands of dollars!! .  They even found a fresh water leak and were able to repair it while the pipe was exposed.  The entire job was done in a day.

I simply cannot sing high enough praises for Steve and his team.  Professional,  caring, on time with a fanatic work ethic. Steve truly cares about people and not just money .

Look no further when needing help with an unpleasant issue of plumbing.
